The NuevaUnión project is located in Chile and connects two mine sites (Relincho and La Fortuna). The La Fortuna site is located approx. 40 km from the Relincho site and is to be connected by conveyor belts. This conveyor belt route is exposed to small and large avalanches. The task was to carry out state-of-the-art avalanche simulations for defined areas and to make a suggestion for suitable avalanche protection measures, including a cost estimate.
Challenges:
Advice on the best possible avalanche-proof route for the conveyor belt; planning of avalanche protection measures for large scale avalanches and cost estimates;
